The Magnolia Art Show


For the past three years, I've been entering my art projects hoping to either a) win a ribbon, of b) sell a piece of artwork. (Now I'm having trouble moving pictures around here, but at least the years uploaded together.)

Now this first photo is one of the vases I entered in my second year (2008). Notice the unframed, unmatted drawing above the vase that got an honorable mention! All the artists were questioning that decision! Alas, I saw neither sales or ribbons in 2008.




This is the second of three pieces, another vase or chalice.

This one is my favorite of the three - I call it "Pandora's Box" because when you open it, you'll see (the word) Hope!


This is the only one from the first year that was worth sharing. It ended up being a wedding present to my sister. The other two entries from that year have been trashed.


Ah! Now we get to the 2009 show pieces. Another large vase named "Watermelon"

Sadly to say, my record is unblemished. Grand total for all three years: 0 ribbons, 0 sales.

I need to get a little more creative for next year's show. So far "my little hobby" hasn't generated any income. I'm beginning to wonder how much longer I can afford the studio space. I probably should spend more time over there, less time on the computer. Work Work Work. Maybe someday I'll get it right.

Getting Ready for 2014

Not quite there yet, but am busy plotting, planning what I want to accomplish in 2014.  Goals are not quite set, I usually do those on New Year's Eve. One thing I plan on doing is to post here once per week.   During that post I plan to update on various topics any progress made during the week. Knitting While Driving! It is possible!

I know most of us have learned to bring our knitting with us when we go to appointments, etc. where we know we will be spending some time waiting. We have learned to put that waiting time into productive use. It is possible to knit/crochet while driving! However, there are rules that must be followed to keep out of trouble with the traffic cops! Why? How many times have you been driving along and then wham! You're stuck in a parking lot. Traffic is not moving. Everything is at a standstill. Now all these happen for various reasons: road work, accidents(#1), whatever. So, instead of sitting there, aggravated, blaring your horn at other drivers who are most likely feeling the same way you do, so why not take advantage of this stand still time by working on your knitting/crochet project? Turn wasted time into productive time! However, like I mentioned above, there are some "rules" to make this a pleasant experience for you and all around you. 1) BE AWARE OF THE TRAFFIC AROUN...

A Short History in Spinning

A short (ahem) history in Spinning > Feel free to blame my cousins. Yep, (coughcoughtwentyfivecoughcough)years ago they got me involved in Revolutionary War Re-enactments shortly after the 200th anniversary of the war and America's freedom. While there I had opportunities to learn from others as well. Yup, that's me! Happily spinning away on a nice wheel. Oh those were the days. Drop Spindling just isn't the same after being on such a nice wheel. I wanted one of my own. Never materialized though. Kept getting put off and such. Then earlier this year - we had this lovely program nicknamed "Bush Bucks", that income tax refund on taxes paid on our tax returns? Well, I used mine and bought this: That's a Louet S51, Single treadle wheel you're looking at. Oh, so nice!
